Hurricane Season is Here!

Hurricane Season begins June 1st and runs through November 30th with peak season from August through October. Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare. Below is a list of key items to have on hand in the event of a hurricane.

Hurricane Checklist

  • Medical Alert Tags
  • Insect Repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Soap
  • Prescription & Over the Counter Meds
  • First Aid Kit with Thermometer, Scissors, & Tweezers
  • Flashlights & Extra Bulbs
  • Batteries (different sizes)
  • Battery operated Radio, Lanterns, & Clocks
  • Matches & or Lighters
  • Rain Gear
  • Assorted Tape (Duct/Adhesive)
  • Manual Can Opener
  • Heavy Gloves
  • Extra Blankets
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Plastic Garbage Bags
  • Two Coolers (one for food and one for drinks)

Be sure to pack enough non-perishable food (canned, freeze dried, vacuum sealed) for each person for 3-7 days.  Have one gallon of bottled water, on hand, for each person per day.

Don’t forget your pets!!! Take them with you and bring plenty of dried or canned food for them as well.

Around Your Home:

  • Remove all outdoor items
  • Trim dead tree branches
  • Shutter all windows & doors
  • Store important documents in waterproof containers
  • Make sure you have an extra supply of prescription medications
  • Move furniture away from windows
  • If you have a boat, secure it.
